"For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), it's always ourselves we find in the sea."
E.E. Cummings

White Shark Projects is about more than shark diving South Africa. Our 21 staff members have a range of qualifications that enables them, as a team, to effectively co-ordinate activities around Great White Sharks which include:

  • service delivery
  • conservation
  • education
  • research

We are committed to working in harmony with our natural and social environment. The expectations of clients are met by excellent customer service, good value, and operational efficiency. Our crew and staff are distinguished by their functional and technical expertise, their hands-on experience and their passion for one of the ocean’s greatest predatory forces. Our knowledgeable and efficient boat crew operates with the benefit of 15 years’ experience in Great White Shark research, conservation and ecotourism.

THE SHARK TEAM

Grant

Grant is one of our highly trained & experienced Skippers. He had his first shark cage dive nearly 20 years ago, and it completely changed his life. He left his pressured life as a paramedic for a more fulfilling life out on the sea, where he could be involved with the Great White Sharks every day. Grant believes that the only way to save these amazing creatures is through fostering greater awareness about them.

Gerald

Gerald is our other professional Skipper and has undertaken over a 1 000 shark trips, yet he is still thrilled to spend every day out at sea. The sea is his passion and the best part of his job is seeing Great Whites. Even after so many years and thousands of sightings these creatures continue to amaze him. Introducing people to Great Whites and changing their perspective is what fuels his passion.

Mandla

Mandla came to White Shark Projects quite by chance. He has found his niche working on the boat and with the sharks. He is a well-qualified shark handler and Dive Master. Mandla runs an educational programme with children from the local schools to create an awareness of marine life, and to educate the community about how important it is to conserve and respect it.

Bee

Bee is our lovable, laughing and enthusiastic videographer. He takes pride in encouraging our clients to give him their best smile and let’s not forget the shark sign! Bee tries his best to get that action shot where a Great White photobombs a client in the cage. Always keen and always smiling, Bee’s energy is truly infectious – once you’ve met Bee, you will never forget him.

Benz

Benz is a bait-handler of note – taking great care and exercising precision in order to give our clients the best chance to meet a Great White, literally, eye to eye. He has a flashy smile which rivals that of the Great White Shark. As a former lifesaver, Benz is an essential part of the Shark Team, putting your safety and satisfaction at the top of his priority list.

Sibo

Sibo has very large shoes to fill, but has taken to his role as our new Movie Man with unrivalled enthusiasm. Sibo soaked up the training he received, from pre-sea safety to firefighting to movie magic; loving the challenge to prove himself. So when you join us on-board Shark Team, be sure to smile your Hollywood smile at the friendly Movie Man with the contagious smile.

Jerome

As our Maintenance Manager, Jerome knows how everything works and where everything is. And in the unlikely event that he doesn’t know, then he will find out for you. You can always count on Jerome. He takes great pride in his role here at White Shark Projects, having chosen this job not just because of his love for the ocean, but also to have a job that his children can be proud of. His knowledge and kindness becomes evident the moment you meet him.

Tom

He could swim before he could walk and has realized his childhood dream of working with sharks. He lives by the Confucius quote: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” He loves talking to clients and sharing his passion and knowledge with them.

India

India has a smile the size of the Indian sub-continent and the most infectious laugh! She enjoys preparing good food for our clients and loves to hear all the compliments. India has noticed that there are quite a few differences in dietary preferences between different cultures and she enjoys the challenge of satisfying them all. Her speciality is the comforting soup that awaits our clients upon their return to shore.
